Raícitas Youth Drumming Classes will be held on Thursdays from 6-7pm from September 18-December 11.

Who
Raícitas Youth Drumming classes are intended for youth and teens aged 10 and up. Younger students may join by request if they are serious about the study of Caribbean drum! 
 
A guardian must remain present at all times for children and youth programs. Registration is limited to the first 8 families per session, please sign up early!
 
Raíces reserves all rights of acceptance to the program through the registration process. 
Class Fee
It is $144 to register for the full class cycle, or $15 per class if you are paying by class or joining for only part of the cycle after October 2. These class fees help Raíces Cultural Center expand our programming and improve our program space. 
What to Expect

In this class, participants will will: 

  • Explore the history and cultural significance of  Caribbean percussion genres such as Bomba, Plena, Rumba and Güiro.
  • Learn how the clave relates to these musical art forms.
  • Learn how to execute the basic sounds, dynamics and rhythms on the drum.
  • Study peripheral percussion instruments including shekere, campana, güiro, maraca and cuá.
  • Learn the use of Call and Response (Antiphony) in song to complement the rhythms.
