Workshop 1: Plant Pressing

Plants That Speak is an exploration of creativity through our relationship with nature. The purpose of this workshop series is to find inspiration and materials for artmaking in and with Nature. By in Nature, I mean in our own contexts: our backyards, gardens, parks, and even our sidewalks. By with Nature, I mean collaborating with Plants as living, conscious allies whom we must listen to and respect.

These workshops will help us explore our surroundings, awaken our curiosity, and create relationships with the plant beings that live beside us. For the Raíces residency, specifically, we will explore the land around the Raíces Cultural Center in Highland Park, acquainting ourselves with the river and the native plants and trees growing there.

Sign up for all four workshops in the series to learn creative techniques with plants – Plant Pressing and Monotype Printing – that will help us to achieve a Botanical Collage.
