Join Raíces Cultural Center virtually every other Tuesday at 7pm for our Caribbean Culture & History Discussion Group. For each meeting, the group will be assigned a reading, viewing or an audio clip to discuss.
Our fall cycle will center around the collection Aftershocks of Disaster: Puerto Rico Before and After the Storm, edited by Yarimar Bonilla and Marisol LeBrón. A preview of the book (pages 1-76) is available here. The first edition of the book is currently available for 40% off from Haymarket Books. Order here.
All members are encouraged to submit a discussion question in advance of each meeting to encourage collaborative inquiry and dialogue. Members can also suggest topics for discussion as well as books, articles, films and podcasts to focus on for future meetings.
Reading: The Trauma Doctrine: A Conversation between Yarimar Bonilla and Naomi Klein from Aftershocks of Disaster: Puerto Rico Before and After the Storm, (pg 21-37).
Access the reading on Google Books.
Please read before the meeting to ensure an engaging discussion!
