Support Spotlight: New Jersey Historical Commission Inclusive History Funding Awarded for Ancestral Herbal Narratives Oral History Project

SUPPORT SPOTLIGHT: New Jersey Historical Commission Inclusive History Funding Awarded for Ancestral Herbal Narratives Oral History Project

Raíces Cultural Center has been awarded an Inclusive History Grant. This is a new grant funding opportunity from the New Jersey Historical Commission to conduct research and and planning related to under-represented narratives in diverse New Jersey history.

We are proud to be among the first recipients of this new grant initiative launched by NJHC. “Inclusive History Grants will fund the exploration of under-represented narratives in New Jersey history with a goal of expanding inclusive, community-centered interpretation and resources offered by historic sites and history organizations. Grants can be utilized in support of research and interpretative planning efforts that seek to tell a more diverse and complex story for a public audience.”

This funding will support our continued expansion of the Ancestral Herbal Narratives Oral History Collection, recording, transcribing and publishing new oral history interviews with individuals who were born in, live in or work in New Jersey, documenting stories, narratives, and histories of herbalists, healers, herbal educators and family members of herbal practitioners from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds and traditions related to healing. These interviews will also be made available publicly in the Raíces Digital Archive as primary source material for New Jersey history research and multimedia project development.
