Where We Live: NEA Big Read Photo Album

In March 2025, Raíces Cultural Center launched our NEA Big Read public program series. We started the series with a kickoff event co-hosted by Raíces and the Highland Park Public Library, where Raíces Caribeñas, our student folkloric ensemble, gave an interactive Afro-Cuban music and dance presentation, followed by a community story sharing and collage making activity on the projects theme “WHERE WE LIVE: PEOPLE, HISTORY & CULTURE”.

Later in the month we held our first in a series of creative writing workshops and book discussion groups inspired by the project theme and about our NEA Big Read book Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi.

Check out the photos from our first events and programs in the series and sign up to join in at any point throughout the project! We will be adding photos as the series continues so be sure to check back for more!
