Raíces Cultural Center would like to thank George Heibel for sharing reflections on his experiences during a recent exchange trip to Guatemala. In his talk and slideshow presentation, George highlighted the contrasting impressions between local, traditional and ancestral knowledge and practices with modern systemic models like permaculture. From an 80 family cooperative in a Quixaya valley to the Meso-American Permaculture Institute to individual homestead farms, participants of this presentation got a glimpse into a diversity of sustainable, regenerative and resilient agricultural practices being utilized in Guatemala. Both in the presentation and the spirited discussion that followed, it was clear that program participants recognized the importance of learning from, acknowledging, respecting and implementing ancestral and traditional knowledge. Thank you, George, for sharing some of your experiences and reflections with our community!
