RAÍCES DANCE AND MUSIC CLASSES Education is a key component of cultural preservation and dissemination. Raíces offers classes and lessons in Hispano-Afro-Caribbean drumming, song and dance to children, adults and whole families. Raíces holds classes for the general public and can also be contracted to hold regular group lessons for youth and community groups, cultural centers and organizations, after-school programs, dance and music schools and more. Raíces offers weekly workshops in ten week cycles on Sundays for children, young adults and families and on Thursdays for children under six with a parent. Each cycle in this Raícitas Youth Program's Children's and Family Arts and Culture Workshops is dedicated to examining the history, music, dance and song of a different Caribbean tradition. Sunday workshops are held on Sundays from 3-4:30 and Thursday from 6:45-7:30 PM. Pre-registration/RSVP is requested. These dances originated from a fusion of African, Spanish and Indigenous cultures in the Caribbean and their evolution throughout the diaspora. Classes include cultural history and instruction in the basic rhythms, movements, sounds and songs of a variety of folkloric traditions from the Caribbean.
