Who

This class is intended for adults who are interested in the study of Afro-Puertorican Bomba and Afro-Cuban 6/8 Güiro. These are small group classes, registration is limited to the first 10 participants per session, please sign up early!
 
Raíces reserves all rights of acceptance to the program through the registration process. 

What to Expect

During our class series we will: 

  • Explore the history and cultural significance of four strains of the Puertorican Bomba – Sicá, Yubá, Güembé & Holandés. Also, the Afro-Cuban 6/8 genre of Güiro.
  • Learn how the clave relates to both of these musical art forms.
  • Learn how to execute the basic sounds and dynamics on the Puertorican barril and the Cuban tumbadora.
  • Study peripheral percussion instruments including shekere, campana, güiro, maraca and cuá.
  • Learn the use of Call and Response (Antiphony) in song to complement the rhythms. 

Class Fee

The class fee is $80 per month, for four class sessions payable by Credit or Debit card or PayPal online or in-person by cash. For those starting partly through the month, the fee for the next month’s classes will be adjusted accordingly.

Classes begin October 4, registration is required!
