Flashback to Afribembé 2022 and This Year's Celebration
by Francisco G. Gómez
Last year’s Afribembé celebration was off the hook. There was a diverse lineup of performers, speakers, poets and the head MC, La Bruja. El Barrio was alive with the smell of delicious food, literary authors, children’s cultural activities, local artisan’s tables, Salsa & Motherland African music and a whole host of other African and diasporic centered presentations. Below is a pic that Nicole and I sat for in a digital kiosk that sent the image right to our cell phone.
The celebration is an annual production brought to you by the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute located in NYC. The Center is an arts, culture, education and media organization that advances cultural equity, racial and social justice for African descendant communities. This year’s celebration focuses it’s Aché on it’s theme, “Black to the Future,” to elevate AfroFuturism from a global diasporic lens with Africa at the center.
